Day 1 : Fly to Bahir Dar
Transfer to the airport to check in for your flight to Bahir Dar . Meet your driver and head to the spectacular waterfalls 35kms per way from Bahir Dar and 30 minutes’ walk per way to the view point. Enjoy taking pictures of the landscape, streams, clouds and rainbows. Afterward, cross the Nile with a boat and drive back to Bahir Dar to enjoy lunch at one of the best restaurants in the city.
In the afternoon have a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit one of the most impressive churches of the area-Ura Kidanemihret church, with beautiful paintings of murals. Walk for at least 25 minutes per way through the coffee forest to the church.
Later we go back to the city for dinner and overnight stay at the Hotel.
Day 2 : Gondar (180km)
After breakfast, drive north of Bahir Dar to Gondar through the beautiful plains, breath-taking hilly landscape of Teragedam Mountain, and some stops for views. Transfer to Gondar Hills Resort or similar to check-in and for lunch.
In the afternoon explore the 17th century capital of Ethiopia. Visit the castle compound where you can explore the medieval palaces/castles of Emperor Fasiledas, Yohannes, Eyasu, David, Bakaffa and Queen Mentuab. Also visit the church of Debre Birhan Selassie with its famous murals and paintings of more than 80 winged-angels covering the ceiling.
Later we have dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3 : Excursion to Simien Mountains National Park and fly to Addis
After breakfast set out for the Simien Mountains National Park (156kms). On the way stop at ‘Weleka’– the former Ethiopian Jewish village, and see works of pottery and an old synagogue. Continue driving while enjoying the breathtaking view of the Simien Mountains with many peaks above 3,000 meters above sea level. Trek at least for one and a half hours. The vast and unique highland plateau is capped by a dramatic skyline of jagged volcanic plugs and split by deep gorges and gullies. The striking tower formations have been described as the ‘chess pieces of the gods’. It is also an area rich in flora, and fauna – home to the endemic Gelada Baboons, Walya Ibexes, Ethiopian Wolves, Wattled Ibises, and Thick Billed Ravens. Have lunch at Simien Park Lodge and later drive to Gondar then to the airport to check in for your flight to Addis.
In Addis you will have a farewell dinner at one of the city’s best cultural restaurants where you will be entertained with folklore dances while enjoying Ethiopian dishes. Finally transfer to the airport and check in for your flight back home.
